Google threatened exit china. What a joke! I am not surprized that many people see them as heros against evil empire. I hope google will stand on whateve it says – not a business decision. What an “exit” really means in Internet age? People in China will not be able to use gmail? When I search the web from US, I will not be getting China web sites. What a joke!!
The question is what is the real motivation for google? We all know that google is the biggest search company in the world. They are making tons of money. However, their China business is not. How annoying it is that they blame the Chinese government for their decision.
Update: Now I understand Google’s motivation from this WSJ article Brin Drove Google to Pull Back in China. It seems that Mr. Brin still lives 30 years ago.
“Ultimately, I guess it is where your threshold of discomfort is,” Mr. Brin said. “So we obviously as a company crossed that threshold of discomfort.”
As of now, Mr. Brin or google’s threshold is to exit the less-profitable search business in China but still keep fast-growning mobile business. After all, Hong Kong is still part of China.
